Ben Cendana is a second-year student in the Ruskin Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Over the summer, Cendana completed his first clinical rotation. During this time, he was able to work with patients, one such patient was a man who we will call Paul (name changed for privacy). Cendana was able to build a positive therapeutic alliance with Paul and together they worked towards his functional goals which Paul was able to meet by the date of his discharge from physical therapy. Following his clinical rotation, Cendana returned to campus for the fall semester. Throughout the semester Cendana would run into former patients who he would chat with.

Unfortunately, during Hurricane Milton Cendana and his family for among the many that lost power. While Cendana was out running errands for his family, he ran into Paul. As they talked, Paul noted that his house still had power and upon hearing that Cendana and his family were without he offered the use of his generator. Paul was able to bring over and set up this generator for them and while he was there spoke with Cedana’s family. Paul told them all about Cedana’s work and shared “what an amazing man and therapist” he was and the impact Cedana had on his life.

Cedana and Paul’s story is just one of that truly reflects the impact and change students in the DPT program seek to make. When sharing this story, Dr. Abigail Myslakowski, one of Cedana’s professors, said “These are the stories that make physical therapy so rewarding and I am so thankful that Ben had this experience. This story exemplifies ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ's mission of developing students as global ambassadors, founded in faith, leadership, inclusiveness and social responsibility.”
