Model UN annual conference 2024

ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ’s Model United Nations Program hosts the 72nd annual ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ Model United Nations Conference (GUMUNC). GUMUNC brought together more than 200 students from around the tri-state area to discuss global issues, working towards the goal of creating and passing a resolution to the issue. The conference is run by a student organization overseen by a secretary general, assistant secretary general and an elected board. These students oversee planning and staffing the conference with the help of a faculty advisor.

This year’s secretary general, senior Criminal Justice major Brianna Barr, has worked for over a year to prepare for this year’s conference.

“It’s so rewarding to watch a year of hard work pay off,” Barr said. “Getting to watch younger students be excited and engaged in Model UN, with research, debate and proposing solutions to global issues. It’s rewarding to see a whole class of students interested in solving these world issues.”

The issues selected by Barr and other club members range from natural disaster response to foreign migration to the Salem Witch Trials.

Students will arrive on campus for the conference Friday, Nov. 8, for their first session and the opening ceremony and will conclude in the afternoon on Saturday, Nov. 9 with awards and a closing ceremony.

To follow along with this year’s delegates, you can view the ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ Model UN Instagram at @gannon_mun where they will share updates created by participants in the conference’s Press Corps, as well as on the ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ story.
